Taking a
media fast is imperative to raising your energy. At
any given point in the day when you tune into the
media, whether it’s on the radio, television or just
your local paper, you are plugging into a lower
energy. If you follow any of the stories or ads that
are presented you will see that there is negativity
to it, and sometimes its blatant negative
programming. If you are doing anything to create or
sustain a high level of living, such as creating more
peace, happiness, congruent relationships, more
abundance, etc., your exposure to the media reduces
your chances at succeeding at sustaining these higher
energies.
We have the ability to turn off the media in our lives, but sometimes we overlook the effects of the media, because we feel the need to be informed; however, we really don’t need to go down this road. Most of the time the media is reporting half-truths, and has spun the story to fit the local demographic - this means what is reported in your area might not be what is reported in other areas in the country.
Many times you will find that the news will search out the most horrific stories just to put people in a state of fear. This state of fear helps to control you while they blast your unconscious mind with effects that are unconscious to you. This is a big business folks. If you allow yourself to be programmed by the television, your unconscious mind takes in all the news, commercials, etc. and creates a stress state in the body. This is not supportive of a happy, healthy or low stress life.
Here is where it gets really scary. There is a study I recently read about infants and a new toy, where they had placed the children in a room with a television and placed a rather sophisticated toy in the room with them as well. The researcher had played the commercial related to the toy and the children responded knowing how to play with the toy. In the second group of children, the researchers had blocked the visual path between the infants and the television. You would think that just hearing the audio wouldn’t allow these infants to discover how to play with the toy, but it did just that. These children in the second experiment had been playing with the toy in the desired way. The children in the control group within this experiment had no access to the commercial and, therefore, produced a more random play with the toys and in no way mimicked the television commercial or how the toy is actually supposed to be used.
There is something to be concerned with when we look at the story of these children and relate it to the expanded public. If this is the response of children to a toy, then imagine how we as adults discover we have this or that disease and need the new pill that we just saw the commercial for. The advertisers understand your psychology very well, and use every ounce of it to gain your allegiance for the use of their product.
Now if you were to take the time to re-program yourself after every negative thing you have heard on the television, you would never get to enjoy what you want to watch anyway, because of the constant negativity you get no reprieves. The media only creates chaos, and that is the way they like you because it is easier to program you. If you think I’m being over reactive and harsh on the media, just monitor a half-hour of programming, and you will see what I mean.
This demonstrates how easily negative programming slips into our unconscious minds and short circuits our innate ability to access peace, love or well-being. When we make decisions to cleanse our bodies by dieting or exercising, we eliminate the things that create the negative condition such as fatty foods, etc. We have a tendency to neglect our minds and our thoughts. Our thoughts are connected directly to how we feel. If we could eliminate for a day or a week the negative programming that comes from the media, we would allow ourselves to begin to get in touch with the thoughts and actions that help to support feeling well and balanced. Try a media fast by eliminating television, radio, and magazines. Stay off of politically charged or news oriented websites. Fill yourself up with books that support well being, listen to personal development pod-casts or CD programs, and journal. Enjoy your break from the outside world, I know I do.
